Courtney Wynn Sheets
artist, curator and death doula
Courtney Sheets is a mixed-media artist, former adornment designer (aka small-scale wood-sculptor, tap the link to see previous work), and person who loves taking photos. She grew up on a farm in Indiana, and attended the neighboring Purdue University on the Tippecanoe River, receiving B.A.’s in both Psychology and Advertising. She departed the Midwest immediately following graduation on many adventures that led her from coast to coast — West, East, South and then North. After finishing her M.A. in Archeo-Mythology Studies (female-centered) from New College of California in San Francisco, she began her studio practice sculpting pendants and creating digital lockets from sustainable wood with original drawings etched through lasers, integrating vintage chains, vegan leather and textiles into many of her pieces. Her custom adornment business continued through 2014 when her focus turned more to photography, and she continues to work with collage, painting and drawing in her art. Her diverse background includes performing in a boutique circus, intermittent stints as a guerrilla clown, collaborating on interactive sound installations for museum and art events, creating life-cast portraits; and designing a one-of-a-kind line of jewelry. She has lived all over the country including most recently the North Shore of Boston, New York City, Tucson, San Francisco, Portland, Oregon; and at an arts residency in the historic James Surls studio north of Houston. Her work has been seen in Origin Magazine, Juxtapoz, Yoga Journal and art-spaces in San Francisco, Brooklyn, Texas, and the Boston Area. She has performed and collaborated on sound installations at the DeYoung Museum, California College of Arts, and Google to name a few. Miss Sheets is currently based in San Antonio since 2019 and lives at the new South Side Living and Maker Spaces where she assists Space C7 gallery and curates her boutique gallery Outrider Art + Objects. She features small solo exhibitions, pop up trunk shows, and objet d’art featuring artists both local and beyond Texas. With a female focus & artist-centric ethos, she seeks work from under-represented artists across all ages, genders & cultures.
